Amos Silas Arnold

I was just going through some photos and found this wonderful image.  This is Amos, the first child of Johnson and Beckie (Zwig) Arnold.  Little guy only lived six months.  I can't believe I have this.  The photo was taken in 1887 in Chatsworth.  The handwriting on the back looks like Mildred (Robbins) Arnold's script.

Seven Sons and One Daughter

As mentioned in previous posts Johnson and Beckie married 6 April 1886, in Lyman Township "at the home of the bride's parents, which was known as the Canada Smith farm."  I believe this farm was directly across the road from where Johnson Arnold grew up.  Did Johnson marry the girl next door?

--Roberts Herald.  8 April 1936.  Page 1.

They had seven sons and one daughter:

1. Amos Silas b. 11 Jan 1887 d. 17 Jul 1887
2. Chester Clyde b. 1888.
3. Michael Ralph b. 1890
4. David Johnson b. 1892
5. Roger b. 1895
6. Henry Stuckley b. 1897
7. Ernest Linn b. 1899
8. Samantha Elizabeth b. 1901.

1. Amos Silas Arnold was born 11 January 1887 and died 17 July 1887. He was the first burial in the Arnold family plot at Lyman Township Cemetery. Six months old.  I cannot find an obit for his death.

Five Generations

Five generations of Arnolds are buried at Lyman Township Cemetery in Roberts, Illinois.  The first burial being the six-month-old child of Johnson and Beckie (Zwig) Arnold in 1887.  The original Arnold plot was purchased by Amos Arnold the 19th of July in 1887 from the Lyman Township Cemetery Association, two days after the death of his grandchild.  Lot No. 253.
And Amos Silas Arnold who died the 17th of July, 1887, was buried here.  He was the first child of Johnson and Beckie Arnold.

I think the above photo was taken at the time of the setting of the large Arnold Stone.  I am not sure of the date, but I imagine the stone was placed between 1887 and 1913, the year Amos Arnold died. The photo below I took about ten years ago. This Arnold plot is located near the center of the cemetery. I need to go back and take it again with more of an angle so the views match.

Lyman Township Cemetery

Amos Arnold purchased the original Arnold burial site in Lyman Township Cemetery in 1887.  The deed to the burial lots is dated the 19th of July 1887.  His grandson, Amos Arnold, the oldest child of Johnson and Beckie Arnold died the 17th of July, 1887.
The child was the first burial on the family plot.
