Golden Wedding


Golden Wedding

Married:  July 23,1857, near Morrisonville in the state of New York.  Miss Laura Johnson to Mr. Amos Arnold both of that place.  The young people lived in New York for about five years then came to the at the time far west settling in Ford County in the state of Illinois.
Half a century has passed away since that day and Tuesday of this week, July 23, 1907.  The children and grand children and a few friends gathered at the home of this happy couple and proceeded to make merry in honor of the occasion. Six children and 24 grand-children were present.  These were included to the following families:  Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Arnold and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eli McNeil and family, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Cooke and family, Mr. and Mrs. Seward Arnold and child, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Tarvin and family, and Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Linn and family.  One member of the family, a grandchild was unavoidably absent living in North Dakota.  All the rest were present that day.  
After an elegant three course dinner had been served the company listened to a program of instrumental solos , songs and elocutionary readings all of which were well rendered.  This program was given by the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold and the family has several member who have exceptional talent in this line.  
The family presented Mr. and Mrs. Arnold with a beautiful clock ornamented with gold.  Mr. John Kenward, at the request of the family making the presentation speech, to which Mr. Arnold responded in a few well chosen words.
After one of the most pleasant days that has been spent in Roberts for some time the family and friends departed wishing to be once more united in a day of gladness and joy at the Diamond Wedding of the happy couple.
